Megan's Reflections Entry

The Thankful Turkey!

“Hey kids gather round!” said Suzie McTound,
“Haven’t you heard? The turkey’s in town!”

“Who’s the turkey?” asked Leslie Jo Faye.

“Oh, Silly Bo Billy it’s The Thankful Turkey!” laughed Tommy S. Slate.
Suzie McTound finished for him.
“Every November she knocks on your door,
For every night she can’t wait for delight in the eyes of the children and friends.”

Leslie Jo Faye asked, “What does she say?”

The reply: “Beauty is a thankful note;
Share this love around and when we meet again it is beauty you have found.”

Reflections

Reflections is an art contest sponsored by the PTA.  I love the Reflectons contest (minus the last minute push to get the entries in).  Jeran wrote an amazing poem.  Megan wasn't going to enter because she was sick and didn't feel like submitting her photography, but at the last minute, couldn't be left out and wrote a silly but sweet poem about being thankful (both to be posted later).  Joie entered in the area of photography.  If you've followed this blog for very long, you know that the last time we were at her house she found 4 sunflowers to put in the window as a way of leaving her family in the house as we left.  She ended up taking some pictures that actually turned out great and she entered one of them for Reflections.  Following is the picture, and her artist's statement submitted with the photo.  The title is "Beauty is a Memory."

By Joie:  In 2007 my family died in a car accident.  We had to sell the house because it was vacant.  We had to go and say good-bye to the house.  I was outside looking around and I found four flowers.  I said that one was a daddy flower; one was a mommy flower; one was a kid flower and one was a baby flower.  I put the flowers in the window in memory of my family.  I was the kid flower.  Walking away I thought it looked pretty.  I took a picture.  I wanted more pictures to remember this day so I went inside and lined up the flowers and took more pictures.

Healing Field

The memory card for these photos has been inside our broken camera.  These are pictures of our trip to the Healing Field the weekend of September 11th.  It's an annual tradition for our family.

Fall

This is one of my favorite pictures of my kids...and Champ, since he provides the humor for this picture.  It was taken five years ago when we moved into this house. It reminds me of fall. I've decided my favorite season is changing seasons. I like seeing mother nature transform every three or four months, and am happy to live in an incredibly beautiful state where mother nature puts on one of her best shows. I find it fascinating that the same fifty degree temperatures that have me peeling off the layers of winter clothing in the spring have me running for sweats and a blanket in the fall. It's all about perspective, I guess. Happy Fall.
