Did you catch that?
Mothers. Plural. A lot of us. Women who respond with nurturing care when there is a need. We respond to children and other adults (yes, we all need mothering) giving the love and care that God would give if He were here.

I've counted the mothers in my life. There's my mom, my friend's moms, my aunts, grandmothers, wise neighbors, mentors, co-workers... The list goes on.
Many of the women I count as mothers in my life have children. Some don't. But the ones who don't have children have been no less of an influence in my life than the ones who do have children.

- of, pertaining to, or characteristic of a mother
- to be the mother of; give origin or rise to
- to care for or protect like a mother; act maternally toward
Every human being needs mothering (origins, care, protection). Women need to mother. It's a perfect fit.
So how many mothers do you have?
How many children do you mother?
How many other women mother your children every day?
How do your own children benefit from other women mothering and nurturing you every day?
That's a lot of collective nurturing and loving, to a world that is desperate need of mothering. What a perfect natural equation. Give what you can give, even it doesn't seem like a lot. Then to make sure the well doesn't run dry, let others give you what you need (and what they need to give).
God must be really good at math, because there's always enough to go around.

What a great post! It reminded me of Sheri Dew's talk: "We Are All Mothers." We were in the midst of infertility testing and had gotten some bad news when she gave that talk -- I sobbed my way through her words. Comforted and hurting at the same time.
Thanks for this..
I love this! So very true. I've got an uncle who'd been a mother to literally thousands (he'd probably prefer I say father). Have a lovely day. (((hugs)))
