United We Stand

This is not a political blog, so I hesitate to throw this out there, but here it goes anyway.

It is a historic day in America to say the least.  In the pursuit of taking care of business the American way, we can chalk one up for the good guys tonight.

None of us will forget where we were on September 11, 2001.  I'll forever remember how united we felt as Americans that day, and in the days that followed, and subsequently how disappointed I felt when that feeling of unity gave way to politicizing an event where thousands of innocent Americans lost their lives.

Tonight when the news of the death of one of the world's most radical extremists started to flow over the airwaves, and buzz through the social media networks, I felt myself praying, "Oh please don't let this be divisive.  Please let there be civility and unity in our collective response to this news."

And for the most part, I heard others pleading for the same thing.

But there was also divisiveness and rhetoric that made me want to mute my TV...

Seems there are always analysts...

...Blame on past and current administrations.

...Praise for the same administrations.

...Blame for administrations that were in power before 9-11.

...Criticism of current leaders before decisions about what comes next are even discussed.

Really?

United we stand.

My prayer tonight is this:

May civility win out over rhetoric.

And let us be thankful, but not arrogant...

Joyful, but not pretentious.

Let us all be united in our desire to make the world a better, more peaceful place to live.

Let us be thankful for a military that defends, and pray for political and military leaders to make wise decisions in the days and weeks to come.

And let us all do our part in our own little corner of the world as we discuss these events to be careful that dialogue does not lead to divisiveness.

Let us all do our part to focus on points of unity and move forward with the courage and commitment that makes us uniquely American.

United we stand.

(And now I'm changing the channel to HGTV.)

AMEN!

Very proud to be an American tonight, and ashamed at the same time.

Proud of the soldiers, intelligence people, and American assets that accomplished something that has been brewing for LONGER than 9 years, 7 months and 19 days.

Ashamed that political alliance and blind ignorance of the entire situation can really make this into anything except a grand victory in the battle against evil.

and, GLAD to know there are others out there who feel the same way.

Beautifully said! My favorite part: "Let us all be united in our desire to make the world a better, more peaceful place to live."

This is so true. It took mere moments to turn this into a political bashing. Civility & unity are things we lack as a nation right now.
